皆さんの周りでEV車はどれくらい見かけますか？日本ではEV車の普及率が低く、1.4%程度と言われています。弊社が拠点を置くオランダでは35%で、世界平均の18%を大きく上回っています。それは政府がEVの普及を促進するために補助金や税制優遇措置を導入してきたからなんですが、これらのインセンティブは車種が限定されていたり、終了したものもあったりするので、今後はインセンティブ次第で普及率は伸び悩むだろうと予想。何なら先日のニュースレターでも紹介したような「車なしエリア」ができてたりして、「車」そのものの需要も地域ごとに変わってくるように思います。
今回はテスラ離れのニュースを取り上げました。車の需要が変化する今、「量」より「質」が求められているように思います。今年に入って、日産が人員削減を発表するなど業界は揺れていますが、元々は「高品質なものづくり」として日本の経済を支えてきた重要な基幹産業。このテスラ離れの要因を探ることで、今後の参考になるかもしれません。

Tesla’s popularity appears to be in sharp decline across Europe — and nowhere more so than in Germany. A large-scale survey conducted by T-Online, involving 100,000 participants, found that a staggering 94% said they would not consider buying a Tesla. Sales in 2024 have already plummeted by 41% compared to the previous year, with forecasts suggesting a drop of up to 70% by early 2025. The decline can be attributed not only to intensifying competition within the EV market, but also to growing unease over Elon Musk’s political stance — in particular, his apparent support for Germany’s far-right AfD party and his increasingly controversial posts on social media. These factors have severely damaged Tesla’s brand image in the region. Germans, known for their high expectations of quality — having given the world Mercedes-Benz and BMW — have also voiced strong criticism of the build quality of Tesla models like the Model Y and Model 3, further dampening sales. Once hailed as a pioneer of electric mobility, Tesla now faces a wave of disillusionment, with many consumers exploring alternative options. As the EV market continues to grow, this unexpected shift may open new doors — perhaps even for Japanese automakers.
